Confused Mother Nature

Here we are on the 20th of November and it was 89 degrees today. Ouch. Well, on one hand my Chinese Tallow tree is turning a nice shade of red, since our mornings have been cool, and on the other, my narcissus bulbs I planted just a month ago are sprouting. Should be interesting to see how those do when it gets down around freezing in a month (supposedly).

I've also posted another picture of our pink morning glory, which has reached its blooming peak.

Fall in Arizona...

...if you look hard enough. I've been trying for years to add some fall color to my yard, and for a long time the only thing in the yard that sufficed was a small pomegranate bush. I've since added a few other things that have turned a golden yellow this month, that I didn't even realize turned, including my trumpet creeper vine, which continues to suprise me (who knew it'd stick to the side of the house w/ suckers), my chaste tree, and my jujube.

I also have planted in the past year a chinese pistache and tallow tree, both of which will turn shades of orange and red in December. They're both so small now the change will not be dramatic this year, but I'm hopeful in years to come.

Yep, I know, calling these fall colors are a bit of a stretch, but it's better than nothing. We'll be heading to the Arburetum in Superior in early December for the real change of seasons.

In other yard news, we've given Becky (Emily's mom) our vase fountain that was situated in the middle of the yard. It was never used, and are larger fountain on the side of the house is sufficient for background noise when running (like you can hear it half the time with the trucks whizzing past our house all day). In exchange, Becky gave us a ceramic cherub type statue that I've surrounded with dusty miller and red ice plants (not blooming). More pictures to comes as time permits.
