A Quick Shot

Below is an up close shot of a dianthus and alyssium (sp?) together in a planter in the back yard.

I've turned on the comments monitor feature that Blogger offers, so I can screen and deny spam postings, which I had a few of in my last post here. Why someone would choose this site instead of our main one is beyond me, but it gave me an opportunity to catch it before too many people waste their time checking out the comments.

February Yard Update
January was kind of a dull month, not a whole lot going on in the yard, but with the warmth these past few days, things are coming alive.
Below is a picture of an area where I scattered seeds back in November. Luckily it wasn't cold enough in December to kill the sprouts that came up, and here we are now with little plants a few inches high, all over the place. I still have a lot more seeds to use, and will find a place for them soon.

I've never seen this bush river willow hold onto it's leaves into February, another testimony to the mild winter we've had. This plant has gone from green to maroon to orange and red, and now back to a maroon/purple color, with very few leaves having dropped. Pretty fascinating, if you're into that kind of thing.

Another testimony to the warmth, I already have sunflowers coming up, and a few of these are over six inches high. By April some of these may be as tall as Emily.

Just in time for Valentine's Day, our Valentine Emu bush is blooming right on time this year.

And yet another early bloomer, although this one is on time for it, the Lilac Vine is starting to come alive. Last year it was damaged enough by the January freeze that it didn't bloom at all. What a difference a year makes.
